NAZCA LINES! there's also a planetarium. :D satisfiedsigner May 27 2010, 06:36:36 UTC
Being so near the geoglyphs made him twitchy. He knew it. He was trying not to be obvious about it. It had been his idea to spend the night in Nazca and book a tour flight for the next day rather than get up horribly early for one.

But he'd hardly slept, even though he'd slept better the past few nights here in Peru than almost the entire last year. And he kept grabbing at his mark, probably out of nerves. But he knew what they were going to see; he'd looked at a million pictures. Being this nervous was ridiculous.

It didn't stop him from being the first one up and ready to head out, though.

Saitou had noticed the twitching immediately. And the arm-grabbing.

He wasn't positive yet how to respond to it, though, or even mention it aloud. Because this wasn't familiar territory to him like Japan had been, and this was Kiryu's home more than it would ever be for him. He still didn't bode well to the idea of flying even for necessity, but this trip was mostly for humoring whatever reasons Kiryu needed to be here. And in all honesty they were probably safer here than they ever would be at home.

He had to shake his head with a light smile at Kiryu's rushing off, however. Predictable as always. Didn't stop him from following, though.

On the other hand, Alastair tried to sleep in. It was hard, but he managed to be fashionably late in the end, wandering out to meet the others still rubbing his eyes. It had to be caffeine withdrawals, honestly, coupled with the constant concentration required not to lapse into Spanish every time some passerby opened their mouth. "Morning," he groaned, slipping his sunglasses on. "Where's this tour thing, anyway?"

Kiryu figured Saitou had noticed. Even if Saitou didn't really know what was bothering him, he'd never been able to hide anything from Saitou.

Well.

He was pretty sure Saitou knew something was up with all his secrecy regarding the Decepticons, but not what. not that it would matter for much longer anyway. Kiryu had been thinking about mentioning that for a couple months now.

"It's a couple blocks down," Kiryu said, glancing at Alastair. And then at Bakura and that hat. He hadn't gotten over that yet. "I tried to get a hotel close to it."

He rubbed absently at his arm before finally stuffing his hand into a pocket to keep from doing that. "Becky said she's going to stay behind, since we don't need her to translate."

[ooc: Becky would be his NPC contact /o\]

Don't even mention the hiding-Decepticon thing to him right now; it would only worsen his mood and/or probably ruin their entire stay here. His thoughts wandered a little as Kiryu spoke, nodding faintly and observing the unfamiliar territory around them, and their company. The fluffy-haired kid was definitely not minding standing out as a tourist. Though the hacker boy would certainly have his uses here. Saitou would probably never learn Spanish, no matter how long he was stuck in this City. Just needed to get that kid to learn some defense, already.

"Hm."

Alastair shrugged as if to agree wholeheartedly with Saitou. "Okay, then. Lead the way. Yeah, we don't need her - I've got it covered." He paused long enough to snort at Bakura's hat. "...dude, you are such a tourist. All right, let's hit the road. I wanna be in the air as much as you do, Kyosuke."

Kiryu snickered a little and briefly reached out to mess up Bakura's hat again before walking off down the street toward the tour building. It really wasn't that far, maybe ten or fifteen minutes away. A couple of the Zones in Satellite had been bigger than that.

Saitou smirked only slightly, not even that visible, before heading down whatever path Kiryu was walking toward. It wasn't like any of this was remotely familiar, but he probably should invest in some 'sunglasses' sometime during the trip. The sun was definitely closer to the Earth here than in New York. He didn't need a history channel to know that.

Along the way, Alastair kept catching snatches of conversation around them, always able to understand. Yes, they did stick out among the locals - more touristy than most tourists, glaringly obvious even compared to most Americans and Europeans who came to see the Lines. But once in a while someone had something even more derogatory to say, so Alastair took it upon himself to shoot nasty glares over the edge of his sunglasses. Always thinking the tourists don't know the language, he complained to himself. He wasn't phased by insults, he just liked making the speakers uncomfortable for not realizing their mistake.

Kiryu noticed the looks and some of the tones behind the whispers, because he was always too alert not to notice, but he didn't care. It was no worse than he'd gotten in the City at times, especially while he was a Dark Signer, and it was hardly as bad as he endured before. He was only a little surprised by some looks of awe or admiration from a few of the natives. He'd have to ask Becky about that. He doubted it was because of the mark on his arm.

And of course, they were a little early, or rather, even the pilot suffered from the same chronic lateness that affected everyone else. Granted, he only showed up a few minutes late; he was obviously trying for his customers.

As soon as he appeared in the tiny office next to the airfield, he started explaining what would be going on and safety pre-cautions and the like--all in Spanish, of course.

The pilot might as well have been speaking ancient Egyptian, for all Saitou knew; he just stared blankly through it all. Too many languages. Too much out of his comfort zone. It wasn't like Japan from his time encouraged too much world travel, or vice versa. The murmurs didn't go past him, though, with the locals seeming to take acute interest in Kiryu. It didn't sit well with him just yet, but he never had been the trusting sort. So for the moment he was going to keep an eye out for anything in English, at this point.

On the other hand, Alastair understood everything and was able to shoot back a few quick questions in fluent Spanish to clarify a couple of points about the particular plane and the flight conditions that day. He summed it up as best he could for the others, once he could steer his mental processes back to English and then Japanese. "...oh, and there's an aiport tax, too. We got enough to cover it, though." He turned his attention to Kiryu in particular. "Think that'll be long enough for you to get your fill of the view?"

((ooc: adding that Bakura would like to be skipped this round, so go ahead Kiryu!))

/o\ I'll try to brain this one tomorrow when I get home. Are we still having Alastair take over the flight?
