Well, the shape-shifting aspect is certainly familiar enough.

What is the most effective way to neutralise them? Is there any known weakness?

The only known weakness is that, after it's fed, it's got to take a bit of a breather. It can't attack immediately, in any event. It'll turn into its natural shape and try to get away and hide.

They're about two feet in length, and look like a fleshy, wrinkly sort of slug. Face only a mother could love.

That's a very good question. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending how you look at it), I've never encountered two at the same time.

Unless you mean another shapeshifter, meaning yourself. In which case, I'd say that wouldn't really make a difference to one. They're not interested in the forms, only the feelings.
