In simplest terms, the Devil is evil.

If one exists... yes. But does human evil exist because of him or does he exist because of human evil?

So if he didn't exist there would be no wars? No poverty? No anger?

Evil is a completely subjective term. I don't have a definition, because I don't use it.

So you only see shades of gray then?

It's more that I don't care about other people's morality.

What is evil?

I don't think you can cookie-cutter it like that. I personally believe nothing is evil as long as the means are jusitfied. Wrong, maybe, but not necessarily evil. but I've never really thought of anything as actually "evil."

So you would be in the duality camp? And do you really mean never?

Yeah, that'd probably be the closest. And no, I've never thought of anything as evil. Is that weird or something?

Evil destroys faith and those who fight for it. That is all that I can say.

By that definition many would consider science to be evil. The great astronomer Galileo was considered wicked by some for simply saying the earth and stars didn't look the way the church said it did. Then he was ultimately proven right.

Why is faith so important?

Humans can have faith in many things. Their Gods, their heroes, their knowledge.

Faith itself defeats evil.

But hasn't faith caused a good deal of evil? Countless wars have been started over clashing religious faiths? And because people have placed their faith in the wrong leader?

悪即斬; Swift Death to Evil. As long as there is evil and corruption in this world, I will eliminate them in the name of the Shinsengumi; in the name of Tenchu 天誅 until Death takes me.

Isn't killing people in the name of cleansing evil then an act of evil itself?

It is a necessary evil. "Live by the sword, die by the sword," they say. I believe that's how it goes.
