"The generality of men are naturally apt to refrain from evil rather because of the punishment that it brings than because of its own foulness."

In an environment where three-fourths of local deaths are temporary, murder (resulting in a death that is not permanent) is a misdemeanor at best.

Discuss.

"Education is an ornament in prosperity and a refuge in adversity" -- see, I can do it too -- and guess which situation this is. Go on, just guess.

[Beat. One so brief he leaves no time for a command that Hush wouldn't humor anyway.]

So now that we've quoted at each other and made implication tangible like the gentlemen that we are, perhaps we can answer my looming question: why do you think it's okay to summon me like a dog?

Only to inform you how rude you are. What, did Marla not teach you any manners?

[HAHA DAMN YOU EDDIE]

Apparently not to your standards. How unfortunate.

[oh there's that condescending rich person ARE YOU TALKING TO ME PLEBEIAN tone of voice again.]

Marla aside, I have a proposition.

[bracing himself for the innuendo. bracing.]

[Oh, he thought he'd heard something about this...]

Temporary?

Nine times out of ten, any unfortunate end you might encounter won't be permanent.

Really. I hadn't heard of that yet.

How?

You could kill yourself and discuss how the process makes you feel. The way I see it, death is death and it's cheap anywhere. This place just forces you to have an existential crisis on the way back.

Which might actually be worse, depending on your outlook.

Defiance doesn't have quite the intended effect when you still answer the question.

[not giving any shit about the actual question. nope.]

Supposedly, there are no stupid questions. I haven't decided about assholish yet. Frankly, I don't want to take the time to reevaluate my behavioral patterns that much.

If the victim still feels the pain of death when murdered, I think that that should be enough to deter people from killing.

It almost seems even more cruel to kill when you know they'll be brought back.

I can think of certain people who'd take great pleasure in killing the same person over and over again.

... as a side note, this also sounds like a horrible waste of perfectly good ammunition. When there is a looming threat of monsters attacking this city, why would you ever want to waste ammunition on each other?

You would be surprised at how popular killing each other seems to be. In my experience, at least.

I don't know , death still fucking hurts, and it's a horrific experience. Just because it isn't permanent doesn't mean it shouldn't be a felony.
