[Vivi has a smile on his face; he's still got that huge yellow feather with him]

That's a really good report, Roxanne. I'm glad you're not as worried about us now.

I figured out how to get Choco out from the Porter room; it turns out the Porter lets me summon him for a couple of hours a day. It's a bit weird, but I guess that's the Porter's way of coping with him.

Thanks, Vivi.

Glad you got that sorted out.

I'd like to ask you something.

Is there a way in The City that someone can be seen by the law as an adult without having to live for eighteen years first?

[Kerblink.]

Well, yes. Emancipated minors do exist. Are you -- looking to establish yourself with adult rights, Vivi?

I was thinking of it. I mean, back home I'm the oldest member of my race, and I turned two not long ago. Black Mages back on Gaia are basically made as adults, though with almost no understanding of the world. There was so much to learn...

[A pause]

I guess it's a bit tricky since the Porter gave me the body of a human child. But there must be other ImPort children who could act as adults...

My father was a lawyer at home. He said the law often allowed what honor condemned. I'm certin there are young imPorts who can-- and probably do, regardless of legality -- as adults in their own lives.

I'm just not sure if encouraging a lot of them-- and maybe those who aren't so prepared-- is a good idea.

But I will be more then happy to help you look into it.

[It's not like he hasn't proven he can't take care of himself. She's just wondering how he'll deal with the invasive procedures-- finding out his incoming, his home situation, his psyche profile-- as it goes along.]

Well, wouldn't such things be judged on a case-by-case system? What works for one person may not be right for another.

That would be nice if you could. I imagine there's quite a lot involved.

[Another pause]

Umm... you're not still... looking for an assistant, are you?

That's dependent on the system. But I know a man who I can put you in touch with that might be able to help you.

You mean at Wayne Enterprises? I've got a temporary at the moment while I look for more permanent help.

[...wait what.]

You're not asking after the job, are you, Vivi?

Would I be allowed to help? I know the law still thinks I'm a child but I can learn and am learning. Besides, something more of an income would be nice to have for home.

The problem would be your apparent age to my associates. It'd be difficult. Plus, knowledge of the work I do, familiarity with the media groups, and so on--

It'd be very, very difficult for you to be able to do what I need in an assistant.

This is one of those -- time means experience problems.

I understand. I'm grateful I even have the time to ask in the first place.

If you need to go anywhere dangerous, I'm willing to come along and help keep you safe, if you ever need that.

Thank you, Vivi.

But I meant what I said -- about helping you. I'll be in touch about that, okay?
