Humans are rarely at peace, even without outside influences.

You think our default state is one of conflict?

I think it is one of need. And need can breed conflict.

An interesting perspective. What do you think are the human needs that breed conflict? In the City, specifically/

Specifically? The need for control in a world they cannot control. The need for companionship, to determine their own paths.

All these things are controlled, to a certain extent, by the AI that traps us here. They chafe against that control, creating inner conflict which they then transfer to external conflicts.

That is, of course, an oversimplification, but it is a start.

So as always, it comes back to the Porter. The Porter and its controller.

It is an interesting perspective on the matter. I thank you for sharing your insights.

You are welcome. Why do you ask?

The City's situation is a unique one. And it has larger implications for our world. I wish to understand it better.

A common desire. Many here share it, few have found the answers they desire.

Discouraging. If the great minds and magicians of so many universes cannot enlighten themselves on these matters, I wonder what hope the ordinary people have.

It is folly to expect that intelligence in one realm, or one expertise, will result in a solution. This world, while similar to many, is still foreign, ruled by its own laws.

Laws we must follow until a better way is discovered.

Do you detect any sort of law or order to the AI's actions? From what I have heard, she wields her power with the chaotic whims of an old tyrant. It would be interesting to learn of a pattern to her behaviour.

The logic of a machine is not always understandable to a human who believes that emotion should be a factor.

I believe the motivation is clearly stated. The world needed heroes, therefore the machine brought those with the potential for power to this place.
