There's other kinds of books, you know. Those ones aren't very good.

Would you prefer the wooing to be the other way around...or something else?

Well, I was particular to mildly similar books at home, but these aren't what I was hoping for in the least!

Really, I'd much rather the male humans were away in some other books. Books that I wouldn't bother reading.

Where are you from?

Ah. I understand. I might have some recommendations for you.

My planet's called Alternia. There are quite a number of us here, though you humans typically refer to us as "trolls".

Now, I do appreciate the levels of passion present in this literature, but can't help feeling it's somewhat misdirected. If you know of any more appropriate, I'd certainly appreciate it!

Oh dear! You're much too young to be reading those sorts of books!

I don't see what's so terribly objectionable about it.

The subject matter is far too mature. Perhaps you should consider reading a more age-appropriate book?

I don't entirely understand the issue you're voicing here. What would be considered age-appropriate, and in what way is this not it? Would this more "appropriate" literature have the requisite level of passion I seek and in the direction I'd hope it would?

1 part heteronormative society structure 2 parts people like familiar stories and another part ability to project self into the story, IE 'the tanned barrel chested pirate who never has a shirt on is trying to woo not only the female in this story, but also ME, specifically'

stories about ladies wooing dudes is a growing thing, though, mostly in pretty awful romantic comedies which are still pretty formulaic with 'this is what the dude does and this is what the lady does'

stories about ladies wooing ladies: more niche, for some reason often feels a need to end with either both of them alone and depressed or one of them dead (for various reasons)

It's the third one I'd be most interested in, but I don't think I'd like an ending like that at all.

yeah, it has a history behind it

way back when people were like 'you know what i'd like? two ladies making out like crazy', they would go to work making stories of said ladies making out (like crazy)

problem was, it was far less socially acceptable to have ladies making out back then, in stories or otherwise, so people would be able to push the smutty parts that filled up 80 percent of the book past their editors by offing or separating the characters at the end to to show "HEY THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GO DOWN THE PATH OF LADIES MAKING OUT"

so a couple generations pass, that shit gets rooted down in the genre whether intentionally or not, mix it in with a sizable amount of queer ladies going through depression or loneliness, and bam, dead or alone endings

this is not all of them, of course, but it does show up a whole damn lot

Oh.

Well that may be too much in line with a few genuine fears I have, except...well, I feel pretty stupid saying that now, actually.

Isn't that how all the stories go?

I'd rather hope not, actually!

That's the impression I got. I don't think I've ever heard a story where it's the other way around where the woman wasn't some manner of siren or demon.

Well, that isn't exactly what I'm after either. If all of the stories in existence are like this, then I should think this is a terribly dull world.

That is very kind of you, Kanaya; and I'd even say that even with my powers it is a somewhat unexpected gesture. Thank you.

Act as you see fit. And yes, it is both traditional and appropriate. I will wear it gladly.
