The City, huh? A name like that tells you one of two things. The first is obvious, a lack of imagination. The second is a little more telling.

I'm talking about Ego. The idea that this is THE City, the one by which all others should be judged, the one they should aspire to. Now don't get me wrong, New York is fine for what it is, whatever you call

I think you like putting on a show. Establishing your personality, your perspective, sending a message.

Avoiding the facts.

Isn't that how introductions go? You try to figure me out while I'm doing the same with you?

Depends on whose facts we're avoiding.

That's a roundabout way of finding out what you want. To tell you what I won't avoid, I'd end up defining what I would.

You want to ask me something, try being direct about it.

Directness is too easy of a hint for you. I was hoping you'd be better than that.

It's more a point of pride than anything else. I caught your hint, but won't bother giving it a response.

Indirect questions deserve indirect answers.

And those are far more enjoyable to riddle through. Indirectness can be unconsciously telling.

Take your manner of communication, for example. Someone of your evident ego, hiding behind text? Oh no, you don't want your voice heard.

Someone might recognize it.
