[ Look! Up on the screen! It's ... a youngish, nondescript white dude! Now how about that. ]All right, I hate to live the cliché, but I've come to realize that while I'm here, for however long I'm here, I have ... responsibilities I need to live up to. Now, I'm not knocking temp work -- I know I'm lucky to have even that much going for me in this ( Read more... )

Aren't you the photographer who always gets the pictures of Spider-Man?

[ It takes some valiant effort, but Peter manages to keep the "oooh, awkard" wince off his face. ]

Oh, uh, yeah, that's me! I've been off that gig for a while, though.

Ah, I'm afraid I haven't really kept up with the Bugle since moving away from New York. Was never fond of the editorials, actually.

What can you tell me about your experience with biochemistry?

Neither was I, to be honest with you. But if my former boss shows up here, I'm denying everything.

Well, I was studying [ technobabble ] in the [ I have no idea ] of [ Marvel never specified ]. Most of my work was under the supervision of [ Doctor Hank may have heard of ] and so the experiments I ran were focused towards [ even more technobabble ]. We found that [ RESULTS-Y STUFF ], but around then I had to take a leave of absence due to family circumstances.

I tried. They want references. Or maybe I'm just really good at finding hiring managers who don't like imPorts, I don't know.

Biochemistry, huh?

Could you give a sampling of your knowledge, or a practical application of it?

[ Wait isn't this the scary lady who works for the government in her universe? ... Well, no harm in at least feeling things out. ]

I can do either/or/both, ma'am.

[She just listens. Never interrupting. She's no scientist herself, but she does have an excellent bullshit radar.]

[And she lets it be silent for just a little longer.]

How'd you like to be a part of an R&D department, making over 50 thousand a year? You'd be working for Stark - Richard Stark, not the Tony guy.

[ Interview-mode or not, there's no way he's hiding that jawdrop -- but he recovers quickly. And stalls for information. ]

I ... wasn't aware that Mr. Stark had a brother in the same line of business.

Have you considered teaching at the Institute? A teacher with classroom experience is a valuable commodity, no doubt.

I sorta thought they just hired superheroes, or people with powers, anyway. I mean, I guess I have powers now, but they're pretty useless and I don't exactly know what I'm doing with them...

[ Boy, does he feel guilty for that whopper. ]

It's a common misconception, I think. The Xavier Institute is accepting to people from all walks of life. Not all of our students are imPorts, you know.

Well, in that case, I guess I'd better go check out your applications. Thanks!

Your alma mater doesn't exist here? How long did it take you to figure that one out?

Reply

voice; incywincyhero March 10 2011, 00:19:36 UTC
About as long as it took to type "Empire State University" into Google. Or, well, it exists here, but it's called New York University and nobody I know works or has ever worked there.

[ OOC: I'm actually not sure whether Marvel NYC has three famous universities instead of two or whether ESU replaces NYU -- or Columbia, for that matter. /wings it ]

My heart bleeds.

ooc || I HAVE HAD SO MANY DISCUSSIONS ON WHAT ESU ADEQUATELY TRANSLATES AS and i accept this theory. I tend to see it as a conglomeration of Columbia and NYU -- I know NYU definitely exists as its own in the MU because Ben Urich graduated from there, but that doesn't mean ESU wasn't inspired, etc etc this is such a long footnote.

You should probably get that checked.

[ OOC: Yeah I think it's SUPPOSED to replace one of either NYU or Columbia, but little inconsistences have sneaked in, as they do ... ]
