So, I've been thinking. Which, yeah, I've notice before isn't something I'm much cut out for, but we all gotta wear tight shoes now and then.

How many of you know me? This future-me person that I ain't really sure I'm gonna take credit for. That I've heard- something, but not a lot about.

[Pause.]Do you think it's a good idea to even ask? ( Read more... )

[he doesn't really have answers to any of the questions stated, but he's pinged by one of the phrases in this post.]

... "Future you"?

I don't really know what to call him.

... Is he really "you" from the future?

I dunno, never met him.

Maybe.

I dunno. [It is the truth.]

I wanted to know, though, so I wouldn't hang the whole thing on you.

But you do hang it on me.

Nope. When did I mention you at all? That's some head you got, Kate. You gotta remember who the universe really turns around.

I don't think I know you, but I could be wrong since I still have a few seasons of American Idol to get caught up on.

Also, when I first got here some folks said I was already here, an' then it turns out all my friends are from different places in time or other universes or somethin'. Sometimes I wonder what ramifications this all has on multiple universes and any cosmic forces that might be watching over them but then I go play jacks.

You play with ten jacks, or fifteen?

Ten.

S'probably the better way to do it.

Be sure to look for me on American Idol when you get a chance to catch up. [He has no idea what American Idol is.]

I heard about my future from the people I knew back home.

They all said the same thing. So it's going to be true.

But not until I go.

How're you sure it's your future? Couldn't it just belong to- some other you?

I've done the things they said were in my past. I don't think I have anyone else to be.

It just seems like there are all kinds of worlds, and that this is where they get all mixed up.

There are people here who know me from an alternate future and someone who knows me from an alternate past ... I don't know if that counts.

[ He doesn't mention that he knows future-me since he's assuming Bucky knows that already. ]

How do you know they're alternates?

Reply

voice incywincyhero March 2 2011, 02:26:17 UTC
By comparing notes -- figuring out which events are the same in both universes, which aren't, and when the changes happened. My timeline split off from my future alternate's several years ago, and my past alternate split off from the both of us even farther back then that. It's like we all started boating down the same river but ended up in different creeks.

So there's no way to tell until you get to the bend in the creek.
