CANTO VII | VOICE; BACK-DATED TO 12 AM THURSDAY

Feb 11, 2011 10:32

[There's a pause at first, only the sounds of Beatrice's footsteps as she's walking around the City.  When she finally speaks, she sounds for the most part serious, but there's a note of anguish behind the coldness of her intonation:]

...I'm looking for the fool.

If anyone else is searching for him---inform me when his location is pinpointed.

It is...he is targeting the Porter as we speak, my dear. Come meet me at [street]. We haven't much time.

I shall be waiting.

[Once she disconnects, Beatrice will be standing at the designated rendezvous point, looking uncharacteristically anxious---even more so, now that Vic told her Keith's location. But her anxiety is not so much stemming from the prospect of the Porter getting destroyed; that was a plan he was going to inevitably botch one way or the other if she could help it.

It was the anxiety of keeping her promise to Jonah, actually. She promised she would bring Keith back alive, even though Beatrice wants nothing but to flay him into shreds for all the harm he's caused to the poor boy...]

Slow him down as best you can---bind him, use the knives, whichever you feel will be more effective. I will work on subjugating him.

[That is, "beating his ass." Beatrice closes her eyes and takes a small drag from her pipe, before fixing Lyra with an eerily calm stare.]

However, we cannot be too harsh on the man. I made a promise that I would bring him back alive. [She chuckles a bit bitterly, shaking her head.] Jonah has made his own decision, after all.

[After a moment's pause, she looks toward the Porter building in the distance.]

He's already on his way to the Porter---another man had informed me prior. We must be off, Lyra...

[Finally, as she summons the golden butterflies to teleport them over to the designated location, she gives Lyra an encouraging smile.]

Do your very best, my dear.

Precisely.

[Beatrice looks fairly contemplative at letting Keith get arrested, but...she's not sure if Jonah would want that. And besides...she's not even sure if Keith will even allow that to happen, even if her and Lyra manage bring him to his knees.]

It's certainly a viable option---it would certainly be quite an eye-opener to not just the rest of the force, but to everyone else, as well. But! You're very brave to be helping me on such a arduous endeavor like this, and I do thank you for it.

[With one last chuckle, Beatrice causes the golden butterflies to surround both herself and Lyra, and it's off to see the Wizard, the Not-all-that-Wonderful Wizard of Grandmother.]
