[There's a flash of dark shirt before Simon backs away from the camera and sits on the bed, hands clasped neatly in his lap. The room he's in is clearly one of the MAC rooms. He looks at the camera nervously, reaching up to smooth down his already flat hair, as though that will actually make some difference. His hands return to his lap ( Read more... )

Oh, was that you? Huh. Glad to see you've come out of your shell.

Arcade Gannon. Unfortunately, don't have any neat abilities such as invisibility. Well, I could. But it would take a while and schizophrenia is a common problem and, uh. Yeah. Hello.

That was me. Hi.

What is your ability? I don't think I've ever heard of schizophrenia being a problem with them before.

I don't have one. Maybe. Does sudden, unerringly profound knowledge count as an ability?

Back at home, we had devices that could turn us invisible, with the unfortunate side effect of eventual mental instability. And I think? I think I can reproduce it here. Probably.

But, uh. Invisibility. Must be neat, huh?

I don't know. Maybe. Powers are usually something that's a part of you, so if you were clever before, it could be.

Oh. I don't think my invisibility has that effect.

Sometimes. It's less neat when I lose control of it. And it hurts when I change.

I'm sorry. Do you often lose control over it?

Not anymore. It's still easier when I feel ignored, but I can usually control it now.

It doesn't sound too bad, then. Despite the pain thing. I'm a bit jealous, but. I'll live.

Have you ever gotten anyone to examine you? Physically? Uh. I mean, scientifically? Just to see what's different between you and everyone else? I mean. Not that you're different. Or anything.

No.

No one could know about our powers at home. The government would have taken us. Locked us up and performed experiments on us. We had to keep them secret.

And how did you? Did anyone else know about your abilities, besides the "us?"

A few people found out. It's hard to keep them secret from everyone.

And they just... kept silent? It may be the pessimist in me talking, but when it comes to more than two people, I can't imagine all of them being mindful of your safety.

Or do one of you have the ability to make people mysteriously disappear?

[There's a slight hesitation here. that hits closer to home than he'd like.]

Most of them have powers. I think most people who ended up with them are just as worried as we are.

Oh. How did you gain such powers, then? I assume you weren't born with them?

There was a storm. Me and a few other people got caught in it. And some others we don't know about. When it was over, we found out we had powers.
