Regular dreams are weird. And they're totally useless.

Has this place changed the way anybody else has dreams? And I'm not talking about that time where everybody fell asleep for like a week.

[A thoughtful pause... And then because he doesn't actually know how to encrypt things, he just switches to speaking Ancient Greek without translations. :I ( Read more... )

Do you mean prophetic dreams or dream-walking as opposed to "regular" dreams?

Um- yeah, I guess. What's dream-walking?

Are they common in your world? I don't have them often, but I haven't had any since arriving here. Are you being blocked?

Do you meditate? Sort of like being conscious in your dreams and able to speak to other people when they're asleep.

Well, I don't really remember having normal dreams. But it's not usually- um, prophetic, unless you're one of Apollo's kids. It more stuff that's happening, or stuff that's already happened to other people. Sometimes stuff that's gonna happen.

I don't meditate. But kinda. Usually our parents talk to us when we're asleep, but I know that can't happen if they're not even here.

So more just "experiencing," and being aware?

Hmm, yeah. It seems to be like that. I assume it's that machine... thing that brought us here that's doing the damage. Gods can transcend dimensions, usually.

[A little nervously:] ...would you mind if I had a word with you in private?

Yeah, that sounds more like it.

... Oh, um, sure I guess. But you have to do it, I'm not that good with computers.

I would like to apologize for my reaction when we first met. In my world -- and many, many others that I know of, raising the dead... it's taboo for a reason. Beside that, many bad things usually accompany it and it's my job to stop these sorts of things from happening. I didn't mean to overreact or make you feel bad or like your powers weren't good or anything of the sort.

[AND A DEEP BREATH.] I'm very sorry. I'd like to make it up to you. Ice cream or something? My treat. Doctor Crane is welcome to join us for, uh, whatever, if you'd like.

[A long, surprised pause. He totally didn't see this coming.]

It's- [awkwaaard] It's fine. It's not like you were saying anything that everybody else wasn't already saying.

... Alright. [beat] But not ice cream, it's way too cold out.

That makes it worse. Just a broken record. Instead of freaking out, I should have you know, asked you. You seem like a nice reasonable young man.

[She laughs, softly, nodding her head. Though he can't see that, so whatever.] Point taken. Is there anything you'd like to see or do in particular? My schedule can be a bit busy during the day because of work, but usually anytime after 2pm is open.

Yeah. That would have been nice. [paaause, sigh. He knows he'd better at least try not to be a brat.] ... Sorry.

Um- I'm... not sure. [He hesitates, embarrassed.] I guess I don't get out that much.

Don't apologize. You did nothing wrong. I also would like to apologize for John. What we do in our world... he does a lot of stuff that no one has can or will do because they're too scared or just can't. What he does is entirely thankless. He's a good man, despite the fact that he can be... a complete and total idiot.

Hm, well... what do you like? Start from that. Ice skating? Waffles? Art museums? The City is a big place. Maybe try something new? I'm always around, so take your time and don't feel as if you're burdening me or requesting too much.

[In a tone that's just. Baffled.] You know that guy? What does that even mean? Other people just can't, what, beat up one skinny mortal in an alley? And don't worry, he got plenty of thanks for it - at least on my post - which is messed up.

We are talking about that guy, right? ... Do you know where he is?

I will assure you that I had no idea what happened or even what he was intending to do. We had a brief discussion that day, but I didn't... [She does actually feel bad about this.]

I'm afraid I haven't seen him for a while.

[Long, considering pause. She does seem sincere not that Nico is particularly difficult to manipulate, at least.] Alright.

... I guess I like waffles.

I don't think he would have done what he did if he didn't genuinely believe he had a good reason to do it. That doesn't make it okay, but I told you because honesty is the foundation to any lasting friendship. ['sup Twin Peaks.]

Doctor Crane can join us, if you like. Less uncomfortable that way -- still my treat, of course.

How would there have been a good reason for that? Everyone else just asked what I was doing.... after yelling at me. Why couldn't he just have done that?

Okay. I'll ask him when I go over later.
