So, lets say I was potentially interested in giving this "hero" thing a shot. Got any pointers for me?

There are a couple of things I'd like to avoid:

1. Capes
2. Tights
3. Life-threatening situations
4. Whiny damsels

Oh, and if reward money is involved, that'd be fantastic.
