Today is October 16th. In some parts of the country, mostly the Midwest and Northeast, a holiday called "Sweetest Day" will be celebrated. It always falls on the 3rd Saturday of the month.
The origins of Sweetest Day go back to the 1920s as a day to spread philanthropy. To show love, care and appreciation for those close to us. Friends, family, co-workers. To remember those less fortunate and make their day a little brighter by giving them candy.
But this is just a gimmick. A candy industry gimmick. Sales of candy are already sky high this month because of Halloween. Sweetest Day is just an attempt at creating a second Valentine's Day and making more money. It is the very definition of a Hallmark Holiday.
It is pointless.
[Private to Topher]
I may get angry with you frequently but I do appreciate you. You are very pleasant to work with. Most days.
Happy Sweetest Day.
[ooc: Topher can expect that bag of fruity flavored candy corn to show up on his desk today.]
