[14th Bust] A long overdue review (Newspaper column)

This is Jeff bringing you another idea for the simple pleasures in life. Whether your an imPort, native, or simply a visitor from another world, everyone has to eat and it's the basic blocks of living.

I'm reviewing Delmonico's on Beaver Street and it's famous for it's 3 pound Porterhouse steaks. There's a hefty price-tag that comes along with it if you want one of these. Try $79.00 a pop.

Okay. Again with a heavy tag, one should expect good food and great service right? Wrong. If you're not dressed for this place, forget getting in the door. Blue jeans are not allowed here. Corporate attire with a white collar clientele, this place is not meant for after work get-togethers unless you're an accountant or a Wall Street walker.

The meal was average and the service was about the same. I ordered the Blue Crab Cake Tomato, Ginger, pickled Peach Jam at $19.00 which isn't bad. The mixture of the sweet and the sour really made the dish stand out. I also recommend the melted chocolate cake for dessert. It balances out any meal and it's hard to go wrong with it.

The range in price from $9.00 for sides to $90.00 for entrees with most of the range in the $16-$34 it's certainly good for the reservations which are required.

The ambiance is historical and the Twain Room was the best place to be if you wanted a more closed in atmosphere. I'm more inclined to rate this 3 forks out of 5 simply because the desserts and the atmosphere made up for the fast pace meal and the slightly above average meal for the price.
