[ When the communicator flicks on, it appears to be some sort of dinner party at a fancy restaurant. Alpha is dressed in a tux, idly twirling his champagne glass while a happy couple chats away beside him. The young man of the pair leans over, making the comment that the engagement wouldn't have been possible without Mikey. And by Mikey, he is ( Read more... )

[Bennett is aware of who Alpha is and what he's capable of. Which makes her a bit frightened to see that he's here but her curiosity outweighs that by a lot. She still looks incredibly nervous, though. But that's mostly because social interactions just put her on edge in general.]

You developed imprint technology.

[A pause because she's not sure what to say.]

I...From what I've heard...It was a technological anomaly. An accident. Perhaps that is not the case but-- Not that I'm defending Mr. Brink, I'm not, I'm not defending him...

[ He raises an eyebrow. Cameron? ...no. She is different. Much different. ]

Anomaly or no, it happened -- and to his credit, no less. I am not one to take the glory away from my beloved creator. In fact, I will only offer the highest of praise. Everyone should know, after all.

I admit that Topher Brink is very intelligent and he deserves recognition for his accomplishments but...beloved?

[That particular word choice seems to confuse her a bit.]

You think that even an anomaly is something worthy of praise? Something he had no control over...?

Forgive me if I'm wrong. My knowledge is somewhat limited on the incident.

Of course. You surely know I was on my way to the attic -- since you know something about the situation, Topher Brink, and imprint technology.

I assume you are the DC programmer Whiskey mentioned. The one who looks like Cameron.

Now that's just cruel.

You know? You're right. Perhaps I should go and put that poor bastard out of his misery.

What, wouldn't you prefer to watch him suffer? So who's Topher Brink?

Careful, Elisa. If you begin talking like you know me so well, I might become convinced that you're fond of me.

[ He appears amused for a moment. ]

Topher Brink is my creator. Surely, Whiskey has told you about him?

But you made Bobby. And there are actually a couple of others -- what about that woman who wanted me imprinted as the Sweeney Todd to her Mrs. Lovett? That had the potential to be a messy engagement.

[ He's taking note of the chair and eying it indifferently. ]

One...small problem. All of that tech at your disposal and you still have no way to contain me.

My how we grow up in the world.

But you said it yourself, Brink, you have me to thank for the idea. So who is to say that I'm not already one step ahead of you?

Are you having fun, Alpha?

And is your work progressing well? It certainly appears to be progressing well, at any rate! [laughter] Oh, the look on the faces of those poor fools! And to think that this is only a fraction of the potential of your creations! Or as you said, Herr Brink's creations, but I would rather give the credit to the one who would put an idea to its greatest possible use. The origin of a thing doesn't matter nearly as much as what is done with the thing.

You know that I grow bored very quickly.

My work is practically flawless. I have pieced together the prototype of the remote wipe device, but as far as problems go...it appears Topher Brink has done much the same.

I have always that such a vulnerability to boredom to be a mark of geniuses.

That is excellent news, Alpha. Now, Herr Brinks' work, do you believe it poses a threat to our own? What do you expect him to use it for?

Considering his intention is to erase my mind with it -- yes.

I imagine if he were to find out of your plan, he would meddle in some manner. Topher Brink loves PLAYING hero, when really that's all it is. Playing.

It would depend on the definition one holds with real.

Fabricated, created, and just a large game of pretend?

Won't the man continue to believe he is real?

The man is real. And he may believe I am just crazy -- he wouldn't be entirely off base with that assumption -- the point was...

Well, there really was no point. Entertainment. My entertainment. I've been building this up for three months, you know.
