It takes pretty much a Perfect Storm, darlin'.

Someone has to be born with a spark of wrongness in them. Be genetically predisposed to what you call snapping. Gives us a lack of empathy, which sounds bad, but definately helps keep us from seeing aspects of ourselves in our victims. Hard to kill someone you identify with.

Then, someone has to have a shitty upbringing that changes a person's worldview from normal, whatever that is, to one where violence and selfishness is completely justified, no matter what the effects are for anyone else.

Now, maybe someone was born genetically bad but got raised in a nurturing, loving family and became able to control it and adapt to being a functional member of society (although the urges never go away, not completely). Or maybe someone had the bad childhood and lived in times of constant war, but when it came down to it, they were just kind-hearted down to their fucking soul and there was no way to beat it out of them. Either way, you don't get a supervillain out of it. Gotta have both.

Huh. Never thought about it like that. I guess you're right. It just doesn't seem like all the bad things could happen to one person. Everybody has something good in their life, even if it's just I dunno, looking at the sky and seeing the clouds go by.

Clouds ain't band-aids, pup.

If you're already got that Bad Seed gene in your blood, just having a little something good isn't really going to cut it, when it comes to making the decision to ignore your instincts. Don't tell anybody, but me, I've got a real sweet-tooth, from time to time. But I've never said to myself, "Wow, this blueberry pie is the best I've ever had... maybe war isn't the answer!"

I... guess so. I mean, it'd take something really big then, yeah? Like falling in love or finding someone you can rely on. Or something like that.

So, you like pie?

Someone you can rely--? Jesus Christ, I thought we talked about this the last time you fell apart because your boyfriend dissappeared for, what, a day? A few days? You got to rely on yourself. There are animals in the wild that mate for life, and when one dies, the other one gives up. Their body starts getting sick for no logical reason, and it dies within a year of its mate. Don't you give people that power over you.

Heheh... no, I don't like pie. I love it.

We Al Bhed mate for life too, y'know. At least, everybody I know has.

What kind is your favorite?

Everybody you know... except you, huh?

Anything but cherry. Don't have much a taste for cherry anymore.

Well, I'm only eighteen. Then again, that's like, thirty in Al Bhed years.

Blueberry?

Wow. Thirty. 'Cause that's so old. [Smirk.]

Blueberry's just fine, girly-- wait, WHY? [It suddenly occurs to Creed that someone might actually be offering him pie.]

It sounds old!

[Giggles.] 'Cause I like pie, too. And I feel like baking.

Subtle. And what brought on the questions about the origin on evil?

It's my middle name.

Like I said--I was just thinkin'. Sometimes it happens. [Oh sarcasm.]

I don't want to find out you've been a damn fool hanging out with some evil jackass trying to reform him or some shit. That's how gullible shmucks get killed, and you've done enough dying this year.

Being blonde doesn't mean I'm stupid, y'know.

Hey, you don't have to tell me that. [you can't see b/c of voice but he flips some blond hair over his shoulder.]
