there is an elevated level of prophecies concerning the people here, given how the city seems to suck in royalty, gods, concepts, chosen ones, and those who can see all over time

a very high percentage of people who have heard from a mysterious figure (likely blind) about their future, their destiny, their 'greater purpose ( Read more... )

that could actually mean quite a bit

the way my brain currently rocks it, ending destiny means

ending the whole idea and concept of someone's life being able to be put on one route

like, look at it this way

you know those old big myths about children of gods, and what their very big important 'destiny' would be, and it would happen, no matter what

ending destiny would mean

those children could be very well whatever they wanted

like instead of overthrowing their father's rule over the kingdom of whatever, they could become a bank accountant for shits and giggles

There's a difference between most of those crackpots and people who can actually see the future.

well yes

but the thing is

think of it like this

a lot of us are like 'protagonists', right?

we've got a very big, very complicated, very action packed story, and it all seems to be leading up to something

the superhero folk especially, and the magic folk doubly so, they've got a corner on that

they're more likely to run into the real deal

but it doesn't really matter whether they're crack pots or the genuine article

i'm asking about prophecy in general

I don't need anyone to tell me my destiny.

for what reason

you know it already

or

you believe heavily in being the own maker of your fate

I'm destined to bring down the Division, I think. Or at least, that's the future someone saw for me.

They're called Watchers, and they see the future in their heads. Tea leaves and tarot cards not required.

I don't know about destiny, but I guess I was supposed to do something big with my life. And I did.

but it's not over, is it?

one prophecy probably leading into another one

I dunno. I'll figure that out when the time comes, I guess. Back home, I'd mostly tied up all my loose ends and done all the big things I was supposed to.

I actually just survived an 'end of the world' prophecy.

So I guess I'm destiny free for a little while. Although one of my friends is the Oracle of Delphi so that's probably not going to last.

ah, apocalyptic prophecies

i think those are actually more put together

to motivate the key figures on the other end of the spectrum into action

the kind that get their own prophecies that they're going to stop said apocalypse

it's like every little seer gets their own piece of the prophecy to put the whole jigsaw together

haha, yeah, probably won't

It was the 'could go either way' type thing where Percy was either going to save the world or destroy the world. Kind of. It's a long story.

It did motivate everyone to do stuff, though, yeah.

She already gave another big prophecy but we have no idea who it's actually for...
