Hello? To anyone on this line, my name is Jack Bauer, I think there's been a serious mistake, I need to get in contact with the police right away to report a kidnapping. I also need to get back to New York immediately. I was with my granddaughter when I blacked out and I don't know what has happened to her. She's just a baby, I need to get back to ( Read more... )

When the Porter returns you, it's at the same moment as it took you. Or that's what's been said. [The kid - no more than 13 - doesn't really look amused, but there's a resigned look on his face. He also has a Scottish accent, though it;s not that strong, but it's there.] Sometimes it's something to look forward, otherwise, it's not.

Either way, I'm Safeguard, welcome to the City.

I'm sorry, but that makes no sense. Could I talk to your parents, please?

Yeah, your guardian, sure. I'm sorry, I'll just be more comfortable having this explained to me by an adult.

Sir, I'm sorry to bother you, but I need as much information as I can get and I need it now. Is what your boy is telling me true?

[brief pause while he looks it up-]

Regarding the Porter? As far as I understand. We are within a localized temporal distortion - a bubble, in a sense - that has attracted creatures from all parts of the multiverse, of all kinds of power. It has been said on multiple occasions that those times when one is able to return to their home dimension - a direct means has not yet been found, aside from the Porter, but it seems notoriously finicky - that one returns to the precise moment from which they left, with none the wiser that they were gone in the first place.

Is that helpful?

...If I'm understanding what you're saying, then if I go back, it will be to the exact moment I left?

Yes, precisely. That is, from what all sources have said. I myself have not experienced such a phenomenon, but I have only been here three...months, I believe the term is.

Three months, and some people have been here over a year. What do you all do? How do you live and support yourselves? Does the Porter provide for the people it kidnaps?

The dog tags give everyone money every seven days, or so.

[Probably can't see it, but he gives a shrug.]

That's good to know, but I'm not trusting anything that thing gives me. I'm going to have to figure something else out.

As Safeguard said, the dog tags offer a small financial allowance. Some are able to live off such and such alone - others find further employment.

I must confess this is my first exprerience with the latter. [works in an antique store part time wut]
