I have taken into account that many strange things have been happening in this city lately and all of us have been very busy but there is absolutely no reason for students to hand in papers like these, especially when I gave extra time to do them. The essay topic was: "The Cause of Liquefaction During an Earthquake". Some of the answers I received were:
"Sometimes when there's an earthquake, it knocks over vending machines and liquid pours out. That's liquefaction."
"That dude on the news what that rockin' mustache said that earthquakes are bad and I agree with him! They suck and I don't like them."
And so on.
You shouldn't take education for granted. When I was growing up, before I came to America, girls were not even allowed to attend school. Without naming names-- you know who you are-- please redo these essays. With real research.
