I have noticed a common factor in a lot of human media. There is almost what seems to be an insistent need to be in a relationship.

So. What is the purpose of a relationship? I have to say I am quite interested in the reasoning behind it.

The purpose is whatever you want to tell yourself it is. You can lie to yourself and claim there's some kind of great esoteric, altruistic reason for it, or you can just be in it for the sex. Either way, you're probably better off without. In my opinion, of course.
