[ When Sharon speaks, she sounds composed -- mostly. Every now and then, some of the tension she's actually feeling breaks through to the surface.Hello? This is callsign Athena broadcasting on-- On the only frequency I can find, honestly. Is anyone reading this? I don't think this thing's got enough power to get a signal up into orbit, but if ( Read more... )

Well, frak me. Sounds like somebody crawled out of their cage and into a uniform.

Starbuck. For once, I'm really glad to hear the sound of your voice. At least, enough to ignore that crack about the cage for now.

What are you doing here?

Athena. Really?

Waiting for the rest of you frakkers to join me here. Here being Earth, by the way.

What do you mean "Athena. Really?" Don't blame me. It was Hot Dog's idea.

I'd ask if you're joking, but there are a lot of humans here. Are you sure?

There's a lot to get used to here, Lieutenant. Time's all frakked up, and if Helo hadn't turned up a couple of days ago and filled me in on the past two years, I don't think I'd be greeting you with words right now.

And I'm sure. I've been on the ground for almost a month, and I'm sure.

[ Give Sharon a moment, please, while she rubs her face with her hands. ] A temporal anomaly like that's theoeretically possible, but that's a big theoretical--

Forget it. You're instincts usually aren't that off. So you're from my past, this is Earth, and other than Helo, you haven't heard a word from the rest of the fleet? That about right, Captain?

It's just you, me, Helo and no way off this rock.

Oh, and Cavil. You're not the first toaster to turn up.

No way off. Is that a good thing or a bad thing right now?

[ Pause for a moment of OH GOOD I'M A TOASTER AGAIN, AM I? THANK YOU, TIMESTREAM. ] Are we in any immediate danger? Ones really aren't the kind you want to get on the wrong side of.

Good and bad. We're not having to worry about being wiped out, here, but at the same time-this isn't our universe. The good news is that no one back on Galactica is going to be missing us, though.

Reports gathered on this network indicate that he's killed at least one individual. I think he's going to be avoiding us, now; I'm gonna go ahead and say that you aren't exactly his favourite Eight.

Another time thing? 'Cause otherwise, I'd say that you and Helo would be missed at least.

private;

Yeah, I'll bet. I'm not the only Cylon who's questioning the plan. But Ones are stubborn. Always have been. Does he know you're here?

Either that, or Tigh'd be celebrating.

private;

He knows I'm here. Helo, too. It's another one of those time things-I didn't know that Cavil was a Cylon, so I'd been communicating with him under the impression he was just another member of the civilian fleet. Frakking stupid of me, I know, but there wasn't anyone else here who'd ever heard of Galactica. I did plenty of digging around, though. Background checks didn't come out too clean, and the police force have been after him for a while.

I think he'd probably find a way to do both at once but claim it was just the celebrating.

private;

There's no way you could've known in that case. But I'm not surprised to hear he's been getting into trouble. I probably don't have to tell you this, but I don't think I'll be trusting him anytime soon.

A little reassurance never hurts. But if Helo trusts you, then frak; I'll have to give an inch.

In a couple of years, you trust me too. At least, I think so. It's hard to tell with you sometimes.

Don't take it any more personally than anyone else does.

Don't worry. I know better than that.

So, Earth. Is it everything people said it would be?
