Even if they had, it is doubtful that would stop them.

No way, man. I think I'm onto something here.

I am quite certain that some of them do it because it is fun. And if those that die loose certain memories when they return, that may be even more reason to kill - almost like a form of torture, forcing the other to forget things that may be important to them. Additionally on very very rare occasion, some that have died did not return, so perhaps they are attempting to get lucky and simply hope that the person they kill will not end up coming back.

... But that's just pointless.

Well, if the person is attempting to find a way to make death permanent - to find a way for whom they kill to not come back like the others that have. Then. That is not entirely so pointless. That would have reason and purpose behind it.

Doing it because it is fun, or as a form of torture, would be quite emotional, and yes, thus it would be utterly pointless.

Killing is just totally pointless, either way.

No, not particularly. Killing is not always pointless.

While I do agree that peace and a lack of death would be preferable, killing is not likely to ever stop. Even if you were to remove the reasons that could be classified as pointless there are moments - such as the termination of one to save millions - where doing so is the most logical option.

Why would you ever need to kill one person to save a million?

You asked for a situation, and I gave you one. I am not saying that it is likely to ever happen.
