Repairs to the city's more crucial infrastructure -- its power plants and water grid -- are progressing well. At this time, I feel comfortable directing some of my resources to help with other matters in the clean up effort. If anyone is aware of a neighborhood in particularly dire straits, please send word to me or my assistant ( Read more... )

Is everyone here obsessed with profiting from this mess?

You would prefer that we suffer and allow it to defeat us then, I gather?

I'd prefer that people weren't racing to make a few bucks out of human suffering.

Every disaster gives rise to two choice: you conquer it or you allow it to conquer you. While others may take the former path, I choose the latter, and I hardly feel I can be blamed for that choice.

Indeed but now the city is quite vacated as well. It seems many have taken the opportunity to leave and not return.

But as long as the porter remains present in the city, one can always find someone in need of a roof over their head.

Some, like myself, are willing to pay well for a place to live that is slightly better kept than a rundown wreck of a warehouse. And for a home that does not expose me to the prying eyes of our host.

I should think your actions more than speak for themselves, Ms. GLaDOS. But I am more than glad to provide credit where credit is due.

CREDIT IS NICE
NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE HERE GIVE CREDIT WHERE IT IS DUE
INSTEAD THEY'RE SUSPICIOUS OR SELFISH OR CALL YOU CREEPY
AND THEN THEY EXPECT YOU TO HELP THEM
WHEN A BUILDING FALLS ON THEM OR THEY SET THEMSELVES ON FIRE
OR WHEN THEY MISPLACE A PARTICULARLY HIGH-POWERED DESIGNATION: SUPERVILLIAN

That is the way of the leftists, my dear. They take and take and act as if their taking does not burden them with responsibilities of any sort to those they take from. Not even gratitude.

And then when they have had their fill, they turn around and expect you to shower them with praise for their greed because they have acted "morally."

I mean it quite literally. A number of citizens, by choice or circumstance, seem to have decided to take this latest setback as a sign that they should move. Permanently. Housing prices are plummeting. Now is the ideal time to relieve people of the property they no longer want.

Logical. Don't want to wreck local economy.

Not only the local economy, Mr. Rorschach. The reach of even such small economic exchanges has far-reaching impact.

If I buy a man's house here and rent it to someone else, not only have a provided a home for a new contributor to the City's economy, I have also given the man a chance to begin his new life elsewhere with money in his pocket. He starts as a productive member of whatever economy he enters.

Real estate is one of the safest investments in this city, I feel. As long as the porter is here, there will always been demand for housing.
