Hello there.

Today was a very full day. I think everyone on team 596 is going to remember this day for a long time. Most of us arrived at the school at 8, never shooting the routine "lets not talk about school" bullshit. The last day of Robotics. Our six weeks to build came down to this one day, and we knew we had to bust our asses to get the thing done. The last week had been absolutly crazy, especially ever since friday- we'd stay at the school until the janitors literally kicked us out, living off of pizza and a mini-fridge full of soda (thanks to mike jones). The first few weeks were slow... we didn't have the materials we needed to really get going, we put TONS of thought and time into designing, and progress wasn't too materialistic. By the end of week 5, we had the basic thing moving around; it was driving perfectly with tons of force and no problems. In the 3 years i've been here, and the 4 years that some seniors have been here, we've NEVER had a robot work so flawlessly. I mean, you couldn't imagine how incredible it was to see the chasis moving around that room without something popping off, falling over, or just failing. And it was the earliest we'd ever gotten a working base. Yet, ahead of us lied a giant arm that would be the heart of the robot. In the time left, the team focused on the arm. In the last two days, it came down to a team of myself, mike jones, adam smith, andrew chan, simon tao, and nate largesse (sp) working our asses off to get that thing done. Not that the rest of the people there weren't busting their asses or anything, but we just happened to be the ones that were there for every hour, and putting time into the arm. Because if you can say anything about that team, its that we're family. We have pride, amazing problem solving skills, and lots of tools. I've never worked with such a group of dedicated and hard working people. It was absolutly amazing to see how our team used innovative ways to get over obstacles. In robotics, you don't have problems, you have obstacles. Such an experience... you can't pay for that. This was priceless, and the competitions that follow will prove to be amazing too.
I'd like to cut out for a second to talk about my buddy mike jones. I'm sure some of you know him; he's a senior, really nice kid, works hard, plays lacrosse. Well jones is the muscle of our team. He knows the mechanical aspect of robotics like no one else, and he's fairly jacked which helps. Jones absolutly owned the robot the last few days... kid's only missed 2 days of robotics the whole 6 weeks. Without jones, we'd have a peice of metal with some wheels on it. He's busted his ass, day in, day out, and i dont think he gets the recognition he deserves. And it's been like that for the last 3 years, him bustin' his ass and absolutly loving robotics. Because robotics isn't just a hobby or a place for us to talk about halo... we do amazing things in that room. And amazing people are shaped by that room. Jones is one of them; last night he had "the most depressing away messege ever" - ' last day of robotics ' and it's true. For him, he's a senior and today is the last day of real crunch robotics he's ever going to see. When you put so much into something, you get emotional when you have to let it go. I'm getting teary eyed just thinking about this now. So at the end of the day, when all was said and done, cleaned up, we looked over at Jones who was all red-eyed under his kickass goggles/glasses hybrid dealies. And some people poked fun at him, but I knew exactly how he was feeling. So this was a little tribute for Jones and the SciClones '05, who i'll forever remember.
But anyways, we got the arm semi-working, mounted it on the robot, packed it up, and kissed it goodbye. But I got a good picture before then :) Enjoy. Also, check the robotics website (off the school site- school life) for updates. I promise tons more of awesome pictures and a kickass video too.

robotics '05 on shipping day :)

"Those with strong dreams fall in the hole of failure more often than not. Let life's course build your dream."

I still can't hear, at all, out of my ear. A few more weeks though... hopefully it'll clear up. And i'm going in for an x-ray on my back (i've had back problems too... yes i'm old) tomorrow hopefully. I'm sure i just need some PT.

Lastly, i'm absolutly overloaded with schoolwork this week. Book (play) to read and take notes on for english, have to catch up in all my subjects for 3 days worth of learning and homework, have to re-learn and study for 2 quizzes, have to edit and turn in an essay, have a database thing for work i have to do, and lastly science fair. Science fair fucking kills me... it eats my time away like a big scary monster. If i spend 2 hours a day for each day the rest of the week, i'll probably be about 1/4 done with it. bleh. but before i get all depressed because of that, i'm gonna savor some more robotics good times haha

thats all for now,
love kyle
