Again, I've been slacking on the livejournal entries. I wrote a bunch of stuff about the Government Breakfast, but never posted it... whoops. Right now its almost 8:00, and i'm counting down the hours until break. There really isn't much to talk about besides the holidays, so i'll get that out of the way and then share a bunch of junk.
Christmas, mainly, tends to get on my nerves. You hear it every year; its all this pressure, spending, long lines, and... just not worth it. Now I know the holidays are a good chance for most of you to capitalize on your parents and squeeze out a few good presents, so I'm not flaming anyone who enjoys the holidays. There is, however, a major flaw that my eyes cannot help but avoid seeing. Christmas for the most part is only about the gifts, pressure, spending, so on and so forth, while the religion aspect has been completly washed away. Companies capitalize on you capitalizing on your parents, by offering fake sales, withholding products until after the holidays, and most of all, creating special products just for the holidays. For example, Apple: One of my favorites companies, makers of the iPod. Ironically, they're putting out a new edition of the iPod in january or something. I think its going to be a big release too, since they got all these sales for the holidays. They're just going to rake in more cash, instead of releasing these products for the holidays. Its good marketing, but its bloody evil. And i know you've seen santa on the coke cans. Actually, you only saw an old guy with a beard, it has 0 religious reference. Which brings me to my next point. Why are people so uptight about all the religions not being represented? If you see a tree that is indoors during december, its automatically a christmas tree. What about the millions of evergreens that are just a bit symbolic of winter and the "holiday season"? Why are any lights automatically "christmas lights"? It may imply something, but they aren't spelling out christmas with the lights; it just looks nice.
Also, the holidays are about too many gifts. Instead of picking 4 or 5 people to buy presents for, there are people who get 20 christmas presents because they feel like they "have to." What the hell has society become when you can't just say "Happy Holidays" to 15 of those people? I bought 2, yes, 2 christmas presents this year. I'm making 3 more. 5 people that i care about most, or think deseve presents for christmas. Only 1 person outside of my family gets (got) a present. I really just don't understand why people spend so much money on gifts for their friends when YOUR PARENTS AREN'T GETTING SHIT. They are the ones who have to deal with you, not your friends. They're they ones who buy you... everything. Be a little more considerate people, and don't give gifts this year or next year. If you really have friends, they'll understand. If not, you'll find out that they're not worth keeping anyways.
Ok, enough ranting for now. Check out the following...
And Then I Turned Seven Acoustic, good stuff.
I had other stuff, but i'm honestly way too lazy to go get it. Read Chris's journal, it has a good article about freshmen.
