Ever worry that your fifteen minutes of fame will come while you're in the bath?

Like those babies on funny home videos. Or you could take it metaphorically, since you've probably already missed that opportunity. Chilling thought to hit you in the shower, I tell you.

Aaanyway... this weekend was anime reactor. Pardon, thats simply 'the reactor'. 'Anime Reactor' got sued to bankruptcy last year.

The con was lively, used in that sense which connotes debauch as well as simple fun. And it was also really really crappy. I've composed a list for my griping convenience:
item 1: We were caught in chicago traffic jam as we went in. I didnt actually mind at the time, but its a good place to start. It also served to forstall...
item 2: Brendan, who had the reservation, arrived fully 4 hours after us, which we spent in the lobby, roomless.
item 3: The hotel was graced with the noble title "The Purple Hotel". Guess what color it was...
item 4: Purple being the color of incompetence, it turned out Brendan didnt have a reservation after all. They had cancelled it, since the twat of an employee he made the reservation with hadnt taken the right data. Thus we ...
item 5: Got shacked up with friends of friends of friends, the majority of which were definitely the most flaming nerds to ever bane the face of the earth. They werent all so bad, but some make me weep for the image of anime fans everywhere.
item 6: Not one decent panel, event, or guest to be had.
item 7: Not one earnest anime viewing room.

There were a couple more issues, mostly with people. People who, for mysterious reasons, decided that time at the con was best spent sitting in hallways waiting for strangers. Incidences of indecision that started to bother even me, they were so protracted. I suppose the real plague of the con was just in not knowing anybody there, and accordinly, I met a few. Just the same, it was a lot of boring sitting around for an event that's supposed to be exciting.

I'm not going to call it a total wash, of course. You meet real characters at these things, and I've realized that somewhere I picked up a touch dad's zeal for quirky people. But I'm definitely staying home next year, and putting the money towards a character-building experience at anime central instead.
