What to do and what to see:
Iconic red sandstone buttes rise to soaring heights in the Navajo Nation’s Monument Valley Park, an area on the border of Arizona and Utah comprised of more than 91,000 acres of rugged beauty. Up to 1000 feet (300m) tall, each butte is uniquely formed by millions of years of erosion, and the mesas and windswept vistas provide a perfect backdrop for nature photography. The Valley of the Rocks can be viewed via hot air balloon or small airplane ride, or first-hand from a Jeep tour offered by local Navajo residents. Horseback riding, hiking, camping, off-road ATV tours are also offered locally, but rock-climbing is not permitted. For a uniquely Southwest adventure with awe-inspiring sights, take a trip to the desert and enjoy Monument Valley.
