Two weeks ago I wrote about how my weekends, especially summer weekends, are like the Classic Calvin & Hobbes comic strip, "
The days are just packed". Some are literally packed, as with our four-day weekend trip to the Inland Northwest last weekend. Using blogging as a measure: I wrote 18 blogs from that 4 day trip. It took me until this weekend to catch up on posting them. As for this weekend, well, it's been a slow, relaxing one. That's the point of my quip about how "the days are just packed." Sometimes they are literally packed; other times they're "packed" in the ironic sense used in that comic.
So, what did I do while taking it easy this weekend? Saturday Hawk and I slept in a bit then drove up to Pacific to visit some friends there and play a game of Spirit Island. It took longer than anticipated so we ended up staying through dinner. We ordered pizza and stuff from a good local restaurant. Saturday night we got home and took it easy.
This morning (Sunday) we slept in again. I think I could get used to this sleeping-in thing if I didn't have work 5 days a week! We went out for a hike right after lunch. We hiked around a few miles at the Mountain View baylands not far from here. On the way home we ran a shopping errand at Costco.
After Costco we changed into our swimsuits and went out to the pool for a few hours. I brought a freshly made Mai Tai with me. It's not punishingly hot here- it was only about 82° F as a high today- but the pool water was warmer than usual from getting a lot of sun the past few days. I was able to walk right in without taking time to acclimate. I did laps in the pool for a while then went for a soak in the hot tub. After that we sat out on the patio to dry off. Then we went back to our house, changed into dry clothes, and sat on the balcony for a while.
Soon enough it was dinner time. I reheated half a pizza I had left over from earlier in the week while Hawk made a big batch of macaroni and cheese with enough leftovers for a few meals this coming week. After dinner we played a few games of Wingspan.
Now, late in the evening on Sunday, we're doing various winding-down activities. For me, that means things like catching up on my blog (I'm so often behind!), while for Hawk it means catching up on work. She feels she's so often behind there, too.
