This morning, in the Arizona desert, we crossed 100,000 miles in our Nissan Xterra.

Prior to this trip I thought we'd be back home before reaching 100k. A week ago I refigured my estimate and
realized we'd hit the milestone on the trip, though I thought maybe it wouldn't be until tomorrow.
By Friday I knew we'd hit it today... though until yesterday I wasn't sure if it'd be early in the day or later. It's relatively early. We're en route to the Grand Canyon Skywalk.
In other words, we're kind of in the middle of nowhere.
We've owned this car for 9 years 1 month now. Hitting 100,000 miles now means we're averaging 11,000 yearly. That tracks with what I calculated a little over 2 years ago,
when the car crossed 75k miles. It makes sense that the numbers track as the car has continued to see little commute duty. 11k/year is almost all pleasure.
How's the car treating us at 100k miles? Well.... When I wrote about earlier milestones, such as 36k and 75k, I had nothing bad to say about it. But shortly after that peachy 75k milestone 2 years ago
the car broke down in a remote small town, stranding us for several days, and wrecking half our vacation,
though amusingly we toured some mountains in a tow truck. Ultimately it cost us about $4,000 in repairs and associated bills plus several days of our time. That's why I've been paying careful attention to
the saga of the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light coming on on this trip.
Speaking of which, a funny thing happened when I started back up after parking to take a few pictures.
