Hawk learned today that one of her coworkers has tested positive for Covid-19. She left the office (everyone was sent to work remotely until further notice), had a video appointment from home with a medic a few hours later, and went to the clinic for a nasal swab test. She'll get results in 24-48 hours.
I Can't Get a Test
Should I get tested, too? Probably, but I can't, at least right now. Testing capacity is limited so access to tests is restricted. Clinics are screening patients for 1) do you have symptoms?, and 2) have you had close physical contact with a person who has tested positive? Either one alone is not enough to get a test; you need both.
Hawk has had mild symptoms over the past few days, similar to a mild cold or seasonal allergies- which we know we both have. Those were just enough for her to pass the screen to get a test. If her result comes back negative I likely won't be able to get a test. If hers comes back positive, I may be able to get a test... if I start suffering noticeable symptoms, too.
Quarantine
We're both quarantining for at least the next few days. Hawk's quarantining because she's been exposed, and doesn't have an all-clear result from the test yet. I'm quarantining because if Hawk's been infected I'm almost certainly infected, too. So neither of us can go out until we get at least her result.
What do the next few days look like here? Watching and waiting, basically. Waiting for the test result to come back. Watching for symptoms. I've started to check and track my body temperature every few hours; fever is one of the main symptoms. Meanwhile we won't be going out anywhere- not even to the grocery store, with masks on, to shop for food. It's a good thing
we've stocked up for exactly this possibility!
