Traveling the Next 2 Weeks

Aug 01, 2019 18:09

Tomorrow night Hawk and I leave town on a trip. For me it'll be the start of two weeks of back-to-back trips. We'll be in Nevada together for 9 days, on what's more like 2 trips pasted together that both happen to be in Nevada, then when we come home from that I'll turn around right away and head out on a business trip to work at a trade show in San Francisco.

Note I'm saying Nevada, not Las Vegas. Most people think of Las Vegas when they hear Nevada, but we're actually not going to be within 296 miles of Sin City. As we planned a few weeks ago we'll drive out to Great Basin National Park on the far side of Nevada, visit there for a few days, then come partway back to Incline Village, Nevada, on the rim of Lake Tahoe, for several more days.

Tonight we're doing a bit of packing for that trip. We're getting our suitcases mostly packed and laying out the gear like hiking boots and suntan lotion and water jugs that we'll load in the car. The idea is that tomorrow after work it shouldn't take us more than 15 minutes to finish packing and hit the road.

When we get back from that trip- 9 days later- I'll barely have a chance to relax. I'll have to dump my suitcase and reload it (or just take another) for 4 days of working at a trade show. This is the preeminent event of the year for my company, so it's going to be busy, busy, busy. This is also the event where I cos-played our (sort-of) company mascot last year. I'm doing it again this year! So in addition to all the work I've got to be ready for, with teaching classes and giving a major on-stage presentation, I've also got to get things prepped for being the butler. Thankfully there's almost no overlap between the clothes I'll take on our vacation outdoors trip in Nevada and what I'll need for the trade show.

no rest for the wicked, trade shows, jenkins, nevada
