Late Night in Lebec

We got underway with our road trip last night at 6:30pm, earlier than I expected. The 280-some mile drive took 6 hours including Friday night traffic slowdowns and stops for dinner and gas. We arrived in our hotel room around 12:30am.
I had hoped to get up early today to beat the crowds at a nearby superbloom site but getting up early was only ever a hope. With our 12:30am arrival it wasn't until 2am I was ready to settle down to sleep, and even rousting myself from bed around 8:30 this morning I still felt tired. Now it's 9 and Hawk is just getting out of bed. The wildflower area isn't far; about 30 minutes drive? And we've got all day. It's just that I'd rather not spend it sitting in a traffic jam waiting to enter the park.
