Whew, it's been quite a trip. We arrived home from our trip to the Crystal Basin in the Sierras, where we visited
Robb's Peak,
Loon Lake, and
Bassi Falls, at 11 tonight. That's just a smidge over 28 hours after we left home last night.
Doing the Friday Night Halfway thing in Rancho Cordova helped. If we'd tried to cram all this into one day, including 440 miles of driving (which we split across two days here) in addition to all the hiking, it would've been crazy.
We finished up the Bassi Falls trail around 6:30pm and drove as far down the mountain as Pollock Pines for dinner. There we ate at the Burger Barn,
same as last year when we did a similar trip. Hey, if it works why change it!
From Pollock Pines it would've been a 3 hour straight shot home. We stopped for dessert along the way in Sacramento. Our first choice was an interesting seeming ice cream parlor named Gunther's. When we rolled up to it we saw a line of customers spilling out into the street and noped out of there right away. I should've known it would be like that give the place has nearly 2,000 reviews on Yelp when most ice cream shops nearby have more like 200. We snacked at a nearby donut shop instead.
The ride home from Sacramento is pretty much always boring. Tonight was no exception. ...It's boring mostly because I've driven it So. Many. Times. It's just the reverse of the route we did last night. The last 87 miles, from Vacaville to home, are the same as we
drove coming home from Medford just 6 days ago. But now we're home. The car's unloaded, I've had a shower to wash off the sweat and grime of the day, and now it's time for bed.
