An Afternoon on the Vegas Strip

When we join our darkfriend friends for these annual New Year bacchanalias it's always a question, "What other than eating, drinking, and hanging out talking trash do we do?" When we were all younger those three were enough to carry us through a long weekend together but nowadays we look for other forms of entertainment in addition. This morning Hawk went out to a couple of bead shops while I engaged friends in playing a round of one of our newer boardgames, Pandemic: Iberia. After that several of went to the Strip together.

Z had never seen the Vegas Strip before, so we took a scenic drive up it from the south end. Some buildings are interesting from the outside, some are not. For example, the New York New York has a lot to look at.

Oddly it's not so special on the inside. (Hawk and I have stayed there a few times in years past.) Other casinos are the opposite, kind of plain on the outside with more to see inside.

Another casino that sports a lot of exterior architectural detail is the Venetian. It's styled like St. Mark's Square in Venice. I wasn't able to get a daytime picture during our drive (it was on the opposite side of the car) but here's a picture from later in the evening.

We finished our drive at the Treasure Island. Hawk met up with Scottie and Nick, who were staying there, to visit an Avengers exhibit. Z and Will wanted to explore the Strip on foot. That left me... happy to play blackjack by myself for a while.

Unfortunately my table session today was not profitable like Wednesday's. I lost $450 today, putting me at -150 overall for the trip.

Afterwards it was time to figure out dinner. We stepped outside for a bit while we made up our minds. There was good lighting for dusk pictures of the TI.

Hawk already had dinner plans with local friends from elsenet, Z and Will had hailed a Lyft back to Main Mansion, so that left me, Scottie and Nick to choose eats for ourselves. We agreed on going out to a nice pizza place... but then as we walked back through the casino to the parking garage I pointed out the sign for the buffet. "You know the saying, 'You are what you eat'" I quipped. "If so then I'm easy, fast, and cheap."

Scottie looked at me like she would've proposed if she weren't already married. It was settled; we'd eat at the buffet. It was easy and fast- important traits as we were all hungry and not interested in spending another hour before having food on our plates- though at more than $30pp not exactly cheap. Two out of three isn't bad!
