Last Friday at about this time I posted about how I was "
Busy, Busy." I felt like I'd barely been able to catch my breath at work for most of the week. The previous 2 weeks was like that, too. Now it's one more week in the series, as this week has been another busy one.
Being busy at work is both a good thing and a bad thing. Being busy is tough because it means constantly having to drop or postpone things I thought I'd be able to do. I feel like there should be a meme to include here: a picture with the caption, "Priorities. They suck."
But busy-ness is also a good thing. It means I've got stuff to do. I'm engaged. While I was catching my breath late one evening this past week it occurred to me, I haven't been this busy at work in years.
My previous employer was mostly a bust in terms of engagement. I've written about that numerous times before so won't rehash it here. But briefly, there were periods of a few weeks at at time when I felt engaged. The rest of the time I felt like I was on the bench.
With my present job I had some slow patches getting started. Now I'm at a stage where it looks like I'm going to be busy from here on out.
The last time it felt like this was two jobs back, in 2012. I started out fairly busy in that job, working with a few good colleagues. But then after a series of personnel changes all the good people I'd been paired with left, and I was stuck with a bozo of a partner. I kept things moving along but was rarely working at 100% after.
The last time before that I was fully engaged was 3 jobs back. I had a good, long run there. I was busy for years at a time. It was tough but exhilarating! We'll see if this job becomes like that one.
