Maui Travelog #1
Monday, 26 Dec 2016, 6pm. Kihei, Hawaii.
I've said before that the end of one trip is often the start of the next. That is quite literally true today as
our all-too-short vacation on Kauai ended with a flight this afternoon off the island... and into Kahului airport, on Maui!
Our flight today was all of 47 minutes scheduled gate-to-gate time and a hop of 202 miles between islands. It was uneventful. Being so short and with reliably perfect weather in Hawaii there's little that could go wrong. Not so for our friends meeting us here, though. Nicole's flight arrived on time, earlier than ours, but
desdenova got delayed in Dallas a few hours after her airline had trouble with aircraft flying her route. At least it wasn't
cancelled like ours.
While waiting for her delayed arrival we checked in to our vacation rental in Kihei. Like the place Hawk and I rented for the previous few days it's a condo in a complex, but this condo is larger. As well it had better be, as it needs to fit 4 of us! But here we have a full kitchen, a nice living room, and two bedrooms.
Our bedroom is the loft upstairs. Yeah, it's not really a "room" as it's missing a wall. (I'm going with the definition here that a room is a space bounded by walls, with a door that can be closed.) A similar thing happened to
dilickjm and his wife years ago when we shared a rental house around New Year's Eve. We're not pissed about it this time, though, because this owner was clear that it's a loft with an open side, and included pictures so we could evaluate it accurately.
Anyway,
desdenova was still in flight when the three of us finished tossing our bags in the condo, so we decided next we should get some shave (sic) ice. Then we met her at the airport. And bonus! No
missing bag this time!
