Back to Portland, Dinner with Friend(s), then Home

PDX Airport - Monday, May 2. 10pm.

After sightseeinging in Astoria and Cape Disappointment on the mouth of the Columbia today we made our way back upriver to Portland. As our flight out wasn't scheduled to depart until 9pm and we estimated we'd be around the airport by 5, we contacted our friend publius1 who lives nearby to see if he could meet us for dinner. He took my request for "something near-ish PDX" very literally and picked what I think was the closest non-chain restaurant to the airport. But he vouched for it being good so we didn't object. And it was pretty good.

Over dinner we chatted about- unsurprisingly- travel. Oh, and we also chatted about how poor we've been at staying in touch with each other. Partly that's because publius1 and a bunch of other friends we used to stay in touch with via LiveJournal all moved over to Google+ while merhawk and I stayed here. Now all that's left with us on LJ are 2 or 3 people we know plus, like, 1 million Russians we don't.

But, travel! P. likes waterfalls, so we filled him in on all the falls we visited on Saturday and Sunday. He was surprised at how many he didn't know about despite living in Oregon for several years. I explained how we find all sorts of beautiful, remote falls by reading Dr. Smedley Q. Boredom's Very Dull Book of Waterfalls.

"Wait, is that really what it's called?" P. asked.
I had him going for a moment.

We discussed other places we've been. P. returned from an enjoyable trip to Paris recently. We shared our memorable experiences from visiting Puerto Rico a few months ago.

Soon enough our time to head to the airport came, so off we went. And wouldn't you know it, our flight was delayed! It has been pushed back over an hour, to 10:10pm. It looks like we won't land in San Jose until nearly midnight, meaning we won't get home until around 12:30am. Getting up for work tomorrow morning will not be easy.

no rest for the wicked, livejournal, books, planes trains and automobiles, pacific northwest
