Taking it Easy this Weekend amid an October Heat Wave
It's been HOT out here in the SF Bay Area. Records are falling all around the area. San Francisco set a record for this date at 97°. That's also the hottest day this year in SF. San Jose set a record at 103°, San Rafael 107°. Here in Sunnyvale it hit 101° F (38° C) today. And it's not just today. Yesterday was hot, too, thought not quite as hot as today; and all of the past week has been hot. This heat wave has actually been running for 10 days now. And while the forecast shows progressively cooler days for the next few days, it looks like temps won't return to normal until Thursday.
Amid this late-season heat wave I've made another take-it-easy weekend at home. Hawk is still mostly laid up with recovery from surgery. We agreed the end of September was the right time for that surgery as we expected the warm-weather season for outdoors activities would be over! Now she's looking longingly at the summery weather outside unable to do much more than sit in it.
We did have some friends over yesterday. They came mid-afternoon and we went to the pool together. All of us jumped in and played for a while, except Hawk who sat and watched us from a shaded chair on the patio.
As of Friday I aspired to spend time each day- Friday, Saturday, and Sunday- at the pool. I figured I, at least, would enjoy the summery weather. Alas the heat has been so hot I've preferred to stay inside with the AC running. It's been just too hot to really enjoy hanging out at the pool. And especially when I have to either go alone or know that Hawk is watching me wishing she could jump in, too. 😞
