Episode 5 of The Book of Boba Fett is entitled "Return of the Mandalorian" but it might as well be called "No Boba Fett" because the title character doesn't appear in the episode. Instead it plays more like a bonus post-season 2 episode of The Mandalorian because it's all about Din Djarin, aka The Mandalorian. ...Not that that's a bad thing; Mando rocks!
The thing that is... well, not bad but also not good... is that this episode continues the new series's herky-jerky pace. Now instead of lengthy flashback stories about Fett's escape from apparent death in the movies cut together with his modern day story as a bounty-hunter-turned-warlord, we have Din Djarin's story told as a slight flashback to catch us up to end of of
the previous episode. ...Which was 95% flashback itself. 🤣
The show's nonlinear structure isn't hard to follow. It's just... weird... for TV. And when presented in an episodic format it does leave a bit of guessing, "Is this part of the story done yet?"
Things that continue to work are
the show's rich visuals and moody world. Plus, seeing Din Djarin pulled into this story is fun. As I noted in episode 1 (previous link) his character works in ways that Boba Fett's is still struggling to establish.
