Thursday after work I went on a flight-booking spree. The impetus was a brief sale Southwest Airlines was having on flights to Hawaii. My spree was also helped along by
securing another year of Southwest's Companion Pass on Thursday.
IMO the ideal time to visit Hawaii is February. That's late enough after Christmas/New Year travel to spread things out, early enough that it still provides a getaway from winter weather, and early enough that it avoids Spring Break crowds. Alas the sale was for flights from March 11 through May 12. I looked at the calendar for a bit, coordinated ideas with Hawk, and made a booking for the 3rd week of April.
While I had all my Southwest stuff open in browser tabs I decided to go ahead and book another few flights as well. I made placeholder reservations for that
small work conference in Austin in January I wrote about a few days ago, as well as a business event in Las Vegas in March. I alternate returns for both that included staying through the weekend in each city. I figure maaaaybe- and by maybe I mean I certainly hope- I can combine business and leisure on these trips.
I think of these reservations as placeholders because a) I can cancel them without penalty if/when I choose to change plans; and b) I don't have anything else about the trips planned yet. (Other than the two business engagements.) For Hawaii, for example, I booked a flight into Honolulu and out of Lihue. Those cities are on different islands! We've yet to make any concrete plans for what we'll do on each island, where we'll stay, and when we'll switch between them. So much stuff left to figure out... so it's good we have a few more months to research & decide.
