[There's the sound of twigs snapping and the grass moving as a new arrival makes his way through the woods. Stumbles a bit, and then the sound of hitting something hard comes over the journal. Presumably, it's a tree.]

...who the hell decided to put a forest here? I'm going to be feeling that one in the morning...

Hn. Yet another new one.

So what does a phaser do?

New one---okay. What is going on here? Everyone has a phaser, it's a standard issue. Bones - you can hear me, can't you?

It's not funny.

Wherever you were or think you are--you're not. Obviously.

Did I stutter? This place is something brand new. Unless your colleagues have been captured along with yourself, communication with them is not currently possible. Our location in the universe, much less this planet, is unknown save for the designation 'Luceti', which I highly doubt has ever been on anyone's map.

Welcome to the nuthouse; you're now part of some ridiculous series of experiments just like the rest of us.

Woah, woah wait. Experiments? Like, sticking needles in us and making us sing and dance?

I didn't sign up for that.

The needle-sticking is probably saved for the individual kidnappings, but yes, experiments. I've heard anything from drastic changes in weather to personality changes to--well, I'm not looking forward to sticking around to find out what other crazy shit they can come up with. We're all prisoners here; escape tactics have been unsuccessful so far.

It would prove too complicated to explain every facet of this place, so.

The village shouldn't be too terribly hard to find from wherever you are.

Oh, joy.

In any event, I'm still interested in knowing what a phaser does.

Let me guess. Your planet isn't part of the Federation, you haven't even made First Contact?

It's likely we're from two very different worlds. There is the United Federation, although I'm not certain what this first contact could be referring to.

First Contact is when the governments of two races make official negotiations after having met the race years before. After Earth's First Contact, the United Federation of Planets started up with three other races.

...Ah. No. There were no negotiations, unless you count the cliched 'surrender or be destroyed' ultimatum to be negotiating. And the Federation is a country.

I don't suppose you have bipedal talking animals on your planet, either.

Don't have them native to Earth, no. But there are some crazy looking races. So why the hell not?

[voice] wishes_eternal May 15 2009, 21:12:29 UTC
So you're from an alternate Earth. Figures.
