Okay, so I'm going to blithely ignore how long I've, uh, ignored this LJ and instead go ahead and post the latest fanmix I've done. Crossposted to the usual places. If you like the icons, you're welcome to use them, just credit as appropriate.
Medium: Television
Fandom: M*A*S*H
Subject: Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce
Title: Anger Turned Sideways
Warnings: None.
Notes: I've been on a huge M*A*S*H jag of late, and I decided to deal with it by cranking out a fanmix. It's a bit dark, looking at it now, but I've always found Hawkeye's character to be a bit dark, so I think it fits. The icons in the template below are all mine; if there's interest, I'll post them sans numbers on my personal LJ. I've only linked to a complete ZIP because I'm uploading this from China, and the internet speeds here are terrible; it just would've taken too long to do individual song files.
Anger Turned Sideways - a Hawkeye Pierce fanmix
1. Foo Fighters - My Poor Brain
[“The way I see it, the army owes us so many coffee breaks, we should get 1954 off.” -Hawkeye Pierce, “Trick or Treatment”]
Sometimes I feel I’m getting stuck / Between the handshake and the fuck
2. Flogging Molly - Drunken Lullabies
[“Hawkeye, the tent is spinning around.” “Which Way?” “Clockwise.” “Mine’s going counter-clockwise. Maybe together we’re sober.” -B.J. Hunnicut and Hawkeye Pierce, “Last Laugh”]
Must it take a life for hateful eyes / To glisten once again / ‘Cause we find ourselves in the same old mess / Singing drunken lullabies
3. Matchbox 20 - Shame
[“Don’t you know how much this place stinks? Don’t you know what it’s like to stand day after day in blood? In the blood of children? I hate this place.” -Hawkeye Pierce, “Fallen Idol”]
What we learned here is love tastes bitter when it’s gone / Past yourself forget the light, things look dirty when it’s on
4. Flogging Molly- If I Ever Leave This World Alive
[“Look, I know how tough it is for you to say goodbye, so I’ll say it. Maybe you’re right, maybe we will see each other again, but just in case we don’t, I want you to know how much you meant to me. I’ll never be able to shake you; whenever I see a pair of big feet or a cheesy mustache, I’ll think of you.” -Hawkeye Pierce, “Goodbye, Farewell and Amen”]
Wherever I am you’ll always be / More than just a memory / If I ever leave this world alive
5. Simon & Garfunkel- Fakin’ It
[“I’m not here for you to admire. I’m here to pull bodies out of a sausage grinder- if possible, without going crazy. Period.” -Hawkeye Pierce, “Fallen Idol”]
I’ve just been fakin’ it / Not really makin’ it / This feeling of fakin’ it / I still haven’t shaken it
6. Flogging Molly- The Worst Day Since Yesterday
[“A war is like when it rains in New York and everybody crowds into doorways, you know? And they all get chummy together. Perfect strangers. The only difference, of course, is in a war it’s also raining on the other side of the street and the people who are chummy over there are trying to kill the people over here who are chums.” -Hawkeye Pierce, “The Interview”]
Well I know that I miss more than hit / With a face that was launched to sink / And I seldom feel the bright relief / It’s been the worst day since yesterday
7. Foo Fighters- Skin and Bones
[“Frank, do you know what a hero is? Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, he’s somebody who’s tired enough and cold enough and hungry enough not to give a damn. I don’t give a damn.” -Hawkeye Pierce, “The Sniper”]
All worn out and nothing fits / Brennivin and cigarettes / More I give the less I get / But I’m all set, I’m all set
8. Alison Krauss and Union Station- My Poor Old Heart
[“Without love, what are we worth? Eighty-nine cents! Eighty-nine cents worth of chemicals walking around lonely.” -Hawkeye Pierce, “Love Story”]
I don’t know that I will ever trust again / It’s a price that I must pay for all my sins / Time has changed me and left me full of doubt / And my heart may be lost never to be found
9. Bruce Springsteen- Human Touch[“Hawkeye, the tent is spinning around.” “Which Way?” “Clockwise.” “Mine’s going counter-clockwise. Maybe together we’re sober.” -B.J. Hunnicut and Hawkeye Pierce, “Last Laugh”]
I ain’t looking for praise or pity / I ain’t coming around searchin’ for a crutch / I just want someone to talk to / And just a little of that human touch
10. Bob Dylan- It’s Alright, Ma (I’m Only Bleeding)
[“Freud said that there is a link between anger and wit. Anger turned inwards is depression. Anger turned sideways is Hawkeye.” -Sidney Freedman, “Dear Sigmund”]
Disillusioned words like bullets bark / As human gods aim for their mark / Make everything from toy guns that spark / To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark / It’s easy to see without looking too far / That not much is really sacred
