Dear California

Dear Sweet Cali,

You know I love you. I always have and always will. But that little Welcome Quake on Tuesday.... well, that wasn't what a passive, meager Canuck like myself considers a gracious welcoming. I'd have preferred a nice ocean breeze or a pretty sunset, which I have noticed your pretty good at thanks to your friend Smog.

I, as you now dear california, am a little terrified of earthquakes and very unfamiliar with them. I was in one once in vancouver the extent of which was a few rattling window panes. However in my nice (okay not nice) 1920s walk up in Koreatown I got to feel the building SLIDE from side-to-side. I love you Cali but making bricks slide from underneath me, not a nice magic trick. I don't like magic in general so give a girl a break,k?

As any Canadian would do, I grabbed my Chihuahua , a bottle of water and my box of Shreddies (a Canadian cereal) because if I'm burried in rubble I want food that both the dog and I can consume until we're rescued. That's right, we're survival lists, us illegal aliens. And then I ran..... to the window. because there was a woman walking outside and I wanted to see how she was reacting. yes, I know it's the dumbest thing I could have done, but I had the Shreddies, the Chihuahua and the water, I was invincible!

I have repacked all my bags, just in case it happens again and I need to evacuate. I keep my keys, glasses and purse on top of the crate Gus sleeps in (beside the bed) in case it happens again, in the middle of the night and I have to leave and drive all the way back to Canada at a 1000 miles and hour.

I slept in my clothes wednesday night, just in case.

I will be brave and put on PJs tonight if you promise to play nice California.

I'm new at this and despite the tough exterior, I'm easily spooked. So be gentle, my favorite state.

Hugs&Love,
Victoria
