Here's a funny story, one that would be funnier if I hadn't stopped posting here for a while, but alas, it's still funny (to me). I found a job posting with
Shoppers Drug Mart that reads almost exactly the same as my resume. I could've sworn that someone from Yum had gone there, someone important even, so I asked my old boss if she could think of who it was. Coincidentally, she was in a meeting with some folks talking about
Hell invoices. She asked the group if they could think of who it was, but that's irrelevant. The important, and funny, part of this is that the person who most pissed me off during my time at Yum piped up and said that his brother is a Director... in IT... at Shoppers!
Afterward, my boss said to him "JD, if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all," to which he replied, "I have nothing but good things to say about David." We'll see if it helps me get a job with them. Fingers crossed - it looks like a decent gig.
In other happenings, went to
Circa Friday night. For those of you not in the know, it's Peter Gatien's return to the night club business. Poor, poor Peter Gatien. He spent over $2 million to build the club only to have it sit empty for something crazy like 18 months while the city tried to keep him from opening. I'm not sure where he got his financing from, ya know, having been convicted of tax evasion (although acquitted of drug-dennery), but he got it somehow.
Good thing he did finally get to open. As a club, it's a great space, something Toronto's lacked for... well... ever. The
DJs I went with weren't impressed with the sound, but I couldn't tell the difference. Ear plugs do a world of wonder. It kinda sucked that the music in the main room was so dark and blip-blop styles; at least there was some good breaksy-electro in another room. I had a great time, but that was probably more the people I was with over the space we were in. The space itself is beautiful, but really, I can have the same amount of fun anywhere else... why pay the extra fees to be in the best club Toronto's ever seen? Maybe we'll luck out and one of the
reborn (wannabe) club-kids will become a superstar on the next Camilla Scott show.
OK. That was bitchy, but it made *me* laugh my ass off... and that's good enough for me!
