Happy, Healthy New Year to all!
What an amazing, unusual year 2007 has been. I think that I've done everything that I'd set out do to, except to be healthier. So that's tops on the 2008 list. Graduated, survived internship, got a job, made new friends, reconnected with old friends (internet is cool for that), bought instruments, built instruments, did self-work, did relationship work - all good stuff.
Spent several hours cleaning the house today, and now I have some time to rest before company arrives. Bonus, the Price is Right is on now; it's a really weird time for it to be airing, but makes me happy nonetheless.
I have decided that I will be getting a Prius- we test drove cars again yesterday and I made a decision about the matter. The Scion is fun, and I'd love to have that sound system, but I'd drive it like a rocket and get myself into heaps of trouble. I felt very comfortable dealing with the salesperson, and she is having her manager call the rest of the SoCal Toyota dealers to find the Prius in the color blue that I really, really want. If they can't find a blue one, then I'll get the charcoal gray color, which they have on the lot. So, new wheels very soon. I have to figure out which bumper stickers would suit it best.
I think that I'm ready to say that I've completed another stage of my mandolin. After 2 coats of sanding sealer, a final sanding, and about 9 coats of finish I think that I'm ready to let it sit for a week, and then add the hardware. I added 2 last coats of finish today, and I'm really pleased with how it looks, especially for a hand-spray job. It's taken on a nice rich color, and as nice of a shine as I think that I can get without professional equipment.

On Thursday I will be going to the first of 4 classes at McCabe's (one of the coolest independent guitar shops in LA) for Guitar repair and maintenance, led by the guy who fixed up my Gibson. I'm stoked. I have so much to learn, and I've had no success in trying to learn this kind of stuff by reading manuals & books, and am nervous to try serious work on my guitars without guidance from a pro.
