So, Chris West, my advisor borrowed $25 from me yesterday.I thought that was kinda weird, but whatever. When he came by today to drop off $25, plus $1 for interest (4% interest per day? Obviously he is not one to shop around for interest rates...) Anyway, he was stading in front of a poster about grade school standards and thought that one of the math problems was illogical. It was. Something about marbles... 50 marbles. Does that imply that there were 200 marbles to begin with? The given answer was "Yes, it implies 200 marbles." He thought it implied "AT LEAST 200 marbles." Sure, that would be the more correct way to word the answer, but the flaw is in the question. It is not a situation that calls for a yes or a no. You can not really give a solid yes or no for an implication. It was like one of theose standardized test questions which have 5 answers, none of which actually answer the question asked. It's amusing that they would have question like that on the wall of the board of education.
