I've got a partner here at CMU and we just spent the last 2 months setting up a project to analyze some data on an education network on the Ning platform. IRB, community consent and the whole 9 yards.
The whole sucker was built around using their REST api's to pull out all the data that we needed.
Last night we had an hour long web meeting to explain the project to the community and get final consent. So it was only an hour, but it was pretty grueling. This morning, with zero advance notice, the Ning developers totally dismantled the REST api's. And they're not gonna have their replacement system up until mid November.
Seriously, if we'd had a week's notice, we could have sped up the timeline and have our data already. But of course, we're not the only people upset by this, and so either way it's gonna take so much extra crap to get them to give us the data.
Part of me feels like screaming and ranting. The other part isn't surprised, and offers only resignation. Do you think I could pull off a resigned scream?
