U.S. Surgeon General - Dr. Sanjay Gupta

Obama Wants Journalist Gupta for Surgeon General

I think Dr. Gupta is a very good pick. For many different reasons.

- Dr. Gupta knows how to talk to the public.
- He has White-House public policy experience under the Clinton administration.
- He has seen various facets of public-health from different views.
- He still performs surgerys... neurosurgery at that!
- He's very energetic/dynamic.

Reading over everything he's accomplished in the past 8 years, he's done more Surgeon General-type work than the past four Surgeon Generals combined! And that's just by being a journalist for CNN. Can you imagine what a guy like him can do when he's Surgeon General?!

Not to put down the past SGs. Unlike most other posts that Obama is filling, the U.S. has been fortunate to have a fairly qualified SG under Dubya.

There may be a coup from the military since the SG is usually a commissioned officer in the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. On the flip side, just because the title has "General" in it, doesn't mean the person has to be ranking military, does it? None of the past SGs have been Generals... they've all been Rear Admirals and Vice-Rear Admirals.

Oh... did I mention...

- Dr. Sanjay Gupta's good looking.
- He's of Indian/Pakistani descent to boot!

Yes. I'm ecstatic with this pick.

(P.S. I plan on filling in more of my thoughts on this matter later.)
